I received an e-mail from one of my newsletters subscribers the other day who wrote, “I’m skinny but have belly fat, what should I do?” this is a common problem because the area around your middle is one of the places where fat tends to gather. It’s the same with men as it is with women. What makes it even more frustrating is that this fat is not easy to get rid of. But the good news is for you since the fat has gathered mainly in one spot (your belly) it may be easier for you to get rid of.
What you need to understand is that you really can’t get rid of fat in just one area only. You can’t just “target” one area of fat. You have to target your TOTAL body fat. That’s why it may be a little easier for you to get rid of the fat that’s gathered in one area because your body will burn that fat for fuel when you cut back on calories and exercise.
In this situation the best way to eliminate the fat around your middle is with diet and exercise. Cutting back on 300-500 calories per day (total) will help you drop approximately 2-5 pounds per week. This is a healthy amount of weight to drop each week.
Going at that rate you should be able to slim down within a few months.
Now, you’re not going to have to starve yourself and you’re not going to have to spend hours and hours at the gym. All you’ll really need to do is cut back on 300 to 500 calories per day.
When it comes to losing 300 to 500 calories per day you have many choices. You can simply cut out a few things that you eat on a daily basis that can add up to 500 calories, such as sodas and snacks. You can go and exercise for around an hour a day which will burn off around 500 or more calories. Or you can cut some things out of your diet and then also exercise (250 calories from food and 250 calories from working out).
If you maintain this consistent schedule of diet and exercise then you will get the flat stomach you’ve always wanted.
Here are some of the exercises you can do and how many calories you burn off when you do them for 45 minutes:
Losing weight doesn’t have to be difficult.
All it takes is a little hard work and dedication.
You have a little bit of fat around your belly so it shouldn’t be too difficult to get rid of. You don’t even really have to go to any extreme. All you have to do is cut out a few hundred calories a day and do some physical activities you enjoy doing.
If you’re new to exercising and dieting you can go for smaller changes over a longer period of time. Try cutting out 100 calories a day and then maybe taking a short walk after work. Or take the dog on a short walk. Then gradually build up to longer and more intense exercising session.
It’s all about finding what you enjoy doing and then doing it.
If you like swimming, dancing, bicycling, running, jogging, martial arts, jumping rope, gardening, or any other activity like that, you can simply engage in that activity on a daily basis and burn calories while having a good time (so it doesn’t feel like work).
Eating The Right Food
One thing you should do is completely cut out any fast food, processed food, sugary drinks, or overly salty foods. Stuff like this is okay once in a while but not frequently. You’ll never be able to lose any weight if you stop at the drive-through of your local fast food restaurant on a daily basis.
To lose the MAXIMUM amount of weight the fastest you’ll definitely need to cut out any junk food/fast food.
Make sure that you are eating as many fruits and vegetables as you can. The general rule of thumb is that for dinner and lunch, half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables.
For breakfast try yogurt with granola or an english muffin with almond butter. Also a vegetable Omelette with coffee is a great way to start your day off.
Should you try a diet like the baby food diet? I don’t really recommend that you try any type of fad diet. There are those that work and that can help you lose weight fast, but once you stop the diet you’re likely to gain the weight (or even more weight) back. I recommend that you change your diet completely for the long-haul. Cut back on, or eliminate completely, soda, sugar, bad fats, processed foods, etc. Drink water, coffee, and tea only.
Eat fruits and vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, and nuts. Stay away from white bread and empty calories. If you do this then you’ll lose weight (quicker than you think possible) and you’ll be able to keep it off for good. Plus you’ll look and feel better than you have in a long time.
