Getting the motivation to workout and keep working out can be difficult. I know, I’ve been there a million times. There are SO many other things I’d rather be doing than working out. I’d rather be eating, watching televisions, visiting with friends, going shopping, etc. BUT, if I want to lose weight, stay in shape, improve my skin, sleep better, fit into clothing, etc. I HAVE to exercise.
Many, many times I’ve lost motivation to work out. Everybody does. That’s why I always keep a few motivational tips in my head to keep me going. Below I’ve listed these tips for you so that when you’ve lost motivation to exercise you can think of them and get the motivation to workout.
How To Stay Motivated To Workout
1.Use the 5 minute rule. I love this tip and I use it frequently. Here’s how it works: Say you just finished eating your supper and you’re tired from a long day at work. The last thing you want to do is go for a walk. What you do is say to yourself, “okay, I’ll go for 5 minutes, and if it’s terrible then I’ll stop and come home.” You’ll find that once you get started you won’t want to stop.
2.Better relations. Studies have shown that “relations” between partners are BETTER and MORE frequent when both exercise. So think of working out as a great way to improve your love life.
3.Use a motivational buddy. I have a friend that I’m on the same schedule as who is much more motivated than I am. When I don’t feel like working out I call her and she get’s my butt in gear. Finding a person who can challenge you can be a real bonus and a real motivator to get you working out.
4.Lay down some cash. Recent research discovered that a large percentage of people who bet money that they could maintain their workout programs did just that and the people who didn’t bet only a small percentage succeeded. So lay down some cash and see if it helps.
5.Know that working out is CRITICAL to maintaining long-term weight loss. Another study found that after a year of weight loss, 90% of those people who maintained their weight loss were exercising regularly.
6.Go to sleep in your workout clothing. This may seem weird but if you exercise in the morning it can be just what you need to get you going. Have you shoes and socks sitting right next to the door so all you have to do is put them on and head out!
7.Load up your iPod. Researches found that women who listed to music while they exercised could do so 20% longer than those women who didn’t. So get some motivational music in your iPod!
8.Think about how exercise makes you feel when you’re finished doing it. When you’re done working out you feel like a million bucks. I know I do. I always feel happy, relaxed, and confident and so should you. Think about that the next time you feel a lack of motivation to workout.
9.You don’t want to die early, do you? This is a bit morbid but lack of exercise WILL shorten your life. People who don’t exercise are TWICE as likely to die early as people who DO exercise.
10.Think about your heart. The more you exercise the stronger your heart becomes.
11.Exercise improves your overall ability to perform with excellence. If you want to sleep better, think better, talk better, and just be more effective in your life then get moving! Exercise will sharpen your focus in so many ways. It really is the best way to improve your quality of life.
12.You’ll look better. What’s better than the thought of turning the heads of the opposite sex as a motivational force. If you want to look good and make people drool, you have to exercise.
These are the top tips I use for staying motivated to lose weight. Of course you don’t have to use all of them but find ones that work for you and always keep them in the back of your mind for the next time you feel that you don’t have motivation to workout.
