How Much Water Should I Drink To Lose Weight?
Does drinking water help you lose weight? Most people don’t know this but you can actually drink water to lose weight!
Most people walk around in a state of dehydration. Because of this their bodies store any extra water out of necessity. This extra water creates extra weight. This can be remedied, however, by drinking enough water. If you drink enough, and keep yourself properly hydrated, your body will only use the amount of water that it needs.
Also, studies have shown that drinking water increases your metabolism, flushes out toxins, hydrates your skin, and carries nutrients to your bodies cells.
How Much Water Should You Drink?
So how much water should you drink to lose weight? A question I’m often asked is, “does water make you gain weight?” I’m not sure where this rumor started but I’m happy to report that it does not. Actually, the average adult should drink around 8 servings of 8-10 ounces a day.
There are various factors that come into play that may change that number. You should factor in your weight (the heavier you are the more you want to drink), your gender (men require more water because they tend to have more lean muscle) , your level of exercise (the more you exercise the more water you should drink), and any health problems (if you have any health problems make sure you talk to your doctor before you begin drinking a lot of water everyday).
Drink more water, lose weight, and see how healthy it will make you. It really works. And it doesn’t even have to be a glass of water. A lot of healthy foods contain water. Melon, for instance, is not only an excellent source of B vitamins but it’s also an excellent source of water. So if you eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables then the amount of water you need to drink will be less.
Staying hydrated shouldn’t be a problem. If you work in an office and don’t have regular access to a water fountain then take a bottle of water with you to work. Better yet, buy a thermos and fill it with water. That way you don’t have to pay over a dollar every time you want a bottle of water. Buy a Britta water filtration pitcher or a Pur faucet filter. These filters are great for removing a lot of the minerals and organisms that may make your tap water taste or smell funny. Drink from your thermos often.
If you have trouble keeping track of how much water you’re drinking then try and drink it at specified times. For instance: 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. 12 p.m., 1 p.m. 2 p.m., 3.pm., etc.
A great way to eat less while you’re drinking enough water is to drink an entire glass of water before you begin your meal. This will fill you up a bit with water so you won’t eat as much food.
Drinking water to lose weight fast is not ideal for some people. They may not like the flavor (or lack thereof). If this is the case for you then try diluting down some apple or cranberry juice. Maybe put some lemon or lime in it. This can give it just enough flavor to make it tolerable (if it’s really that hard for you to drink it).
AVOID drinking sodas or alcohol if you can. These drinks do contain water but they contain a LOT of empty calories which means they are not good for you if you’re trying to lose weight. If you get a craving for a soda then try drinking a glass of water with lemon first. It should cut the craving down enough to make it tolerable.

I will recommend your article to anyone in a rapid and not so rapid weight loss program. But also for anybody trying to be healthy. Your explanation of why dehydration makes you retain more liquid is powerful, anyone will agree. To drink enough water, I have this 50oz bottle sitting on my desk, I refill it every day and it has to be empty by the time I leave. So with what I drink in the morning and after work, it makes my goal of about 85 oz per day. And yes, it helps lose weight. Very well written.

Thanks for the comment Charlie! Most people are simply unaware of how important water is for weight loss and overall health. Water does so much for the body including increasing metabolism. More water = less weight! Pass it on!
